Many of you who will not be able to visit Universal Orlando this year have asked for spoilers regarding the two Halloween Horror Nights houses that have opened, so if you want more info and some spoilers, read on, my friends!!
Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives! at at Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020
This is a story-driven house with a twist on the 1935 Universal Monsters classic film, Bride of Frankenstein. Unlike a regular HHN year where guests are moved through the house in a “conga line” with guests right in front of and behind them, causing an experience where your timing could line up with catching the story and good scares, OR the person in front of you could get the best experience and you might get slightly less of a good walk through – this year, with social distancing, they are doing things very differently!
One party at a time – there are team members with glowing directional sticks guiding you through each part of the house, from beginning to end. The party before you enters – you wait, then you are allowed to move forward. You can still see the party in front of you, but there is 6 feet between you and them, so you get plenty of time and stop and enjoy each scene! Because of this, you are literally walking through the story and you don’t miss any parts (unless you catch a shift change, which still does happen) which is amazing!
The twist on the story is (from what I could gather) – It begins at the end of the film, after the monster says “we belong dead” and blows up the building. His bride sees him under a burning pillar that has fallen on him and screams in terror, trying to save him from the burning pillar. She then decides that she will save him and bring him back to life. Terrorizing villagers and working on experiment after experiment, she takes the body parts she needs, discarding the used carcasses of failed experiments, leaving the results of those experiments a charred mess for you to walk through! She has clearly gone quite mad and won’t give up until THE MONSTER SHALL HAVE HER MATE, AND THE MATE HER MONSTER!!! A fun easter egg is that at the end of the house when you walk through some of the coffins of discarded carcasses and experiments, the Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of them!!
TOOTH FAIRY’S REVENGE at Universal Orlando Resort Halloween 2020
Another gorgeous story-driven house, the Tooth Fairy’s Revenge is the story of a young boy who selfishly refuses to give up his tooth to the tooth fairy – not only that, he has a tantrum and says he doesn’t believe in fairies at all! The Tooth Fairy curses the family and you walk through scene after scene of horrifying fairies and the results of their curse on the family! BOth houses have plexiglass separating the scare actors from guests, but what’s fun is that you start to get used to it, you start to look ahead and think, “oh, some plexiglass, let me get ready for a scare,” then BAM, a scary fairy pops up on the other side where you didn’t expect them and gets ya with a good scare!! The best scene in this house is the very first scene that looks like paper cut outs of a fairy tale, setting the stage for the family’s curse and its outcome! Let that be a lesson to believe in fairies!
